About the performer
Jean-Pierre Steijvers studied organ, piano, and church music as his main subjects at the Maastricht Conservatory and the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam. He was a prizewinner at organ competitions in Dublin, Lucerne, Chartres, and Kaliningrad, and winner of the Moscow Philharmonic Society Special Award.
Since May 2004, he has been appointed Titular Organist of St. Christopher’s Cathedral in Roermond and of the Louvigny/Robustelly/Verschueren organ in the Carolus Chapel of the former Major Seminary of the Diocese of Roermond. He also teaches organ, piano, and music theory at ECI Cultuurfabriek in Roermond.
He gives numerous concerts in Europe, Japan, the USA, and in leading concert halls throughout Russia. He has collaborated with renowned conductors such as Ed Spanjaard, Vladimir Askenazy, Edo de Waart, Paul Goodwin, Rizzi Brignoli, and Kynan Johns. He is also artistic advisor to the Stichting Orgelkring Roermond.
In Russia, he teaches organ at the Moscow Gnessin Summer School and has won the Organist of the Year Award.
He is also the conductor of the Sint Martinus choir and the Weert Men’s Choir.
