The saturdays of Music in the Cathrien
For more than 35 years, the Cathrien has been offering a beautiful acoustic space on Saturday afternoons for the Muziek in de Cathrien concert series. The Collegium Musicum Eindhoven ensures that professional musicians and the better amateur choirs perform for you. A varied, high-quality program is offered in this attractive, monumental church. The concerts start at 3 p.m. and last about an hour.
Very varied and high-quality program with a major contribution from our own CVE led by Ruud Huijbregts.
The chamber music concerts usually take place in the apse of the church (behind the old altar). Here the intimacy of this music comes into its own, while the listeners can take a seat around the performers. We often use our own harpsichord and the beautiful chest organ.
Choirs from all over the country perform in the Cathrien with classical styles, but also pop, jazz and world music.
In the Netherlands, about 1.7 million people sing in a choir, professionally or as an amateur. This puts the Netherlands among the top countries with the highest choir density. During the Easter season, Mattheus Passion is not performed as much as in our country.
The “Big Verschueren” organ of the Cathrien is played every month by famous organists.
