About Hanneke van den Boomen
Hanneke van den Boomen (1958-2022) has composed a concert mass that will be performed for the first time on June 21 in the St. Catherine Church. She said about it herself: A lot of religious music inspires me because I find it beautiful, of course, but also because I experience a depth and connection between people in it. I also tried to achieve that by writing this concert mass, Missa del Mundo. As the name suggests, it contains a lot of music from different parts of the world and cultures, Chinese, Arabic, South American, but based on the Catholic tradition and texts. She herself was no longer able to perform this work, but before her death she transferred the artistic direction to her cousin Dorus van den Boomen.
Stichting Gehannes, which manages Hanneke’s artistic legacy, has put together a project choir, ensemble and wind instruments that will perform these pieces. Many of the performers knew Hanneke in all her musical passion; family, friends and colleagues. In the spirit of Hanneke, we bring all kinds of people together in this way for a (renewed) musical introduction and connection. With each other and with Hanneke’s work.
The company consists of a choir of 14 singers, 8 wind instruments and a 5-person ensemble. The program includes: Kyrie Eleison, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus and Agnus Dei. We conclude with an Ave Maria, composed by Hanneke. This is not actually part of the Missa del Mundo, but this little work of art should not be missed.
About the Day of the Composer

The fourth edition of Composer’s Day will take place on and around Saturday 21 June 2025. During the national festival, more than twenty participating cities will put their composers in the spotlight with all kinds of activities, such as concerts, workshops and lectures.
Seven City Composers will compose a new City Song especially for the festival. The public can travel from station to station on the bright red music train, the New Music NOW Express. Live performances will take place in the three train compartments and at the NS train stations.
Radio station NPO Klassiek will pay a lot of attention to Dutch new music.
Composer’s Day is an initiative of New Music NOW and is unique in Europe.
