About the performer

Jaco van Leeuwen (Goes, 1962) received his first organ lessons with Adriaan Kousemaker and later studied with Kees van Eersel. From 1980 he studied organ, piano (with Elly Kooiman and Theo Saris), choral conducting, singing and church music at the Netherlands Institute for Church Music in Utrecht. In 1985 he obtained the diplomas of Teaching Musician for organ and piano with honors, as well as the final diploma in Church Music.

He continued his organ studies with Piet Kee at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam, where he obtained his Performing Musician diploma. At the International Summer Academy for Organists in Haarlem, Jaco van Leeuwen took courses and master classes with, among others, Marie-Claire Alain, Hans Haselböck, Daniel Roth and Montserrat Torrent.

He won 1st prizes at the International Organ Competition Utrecht (1988) and the International Hendrik Andriessen Organ Competition (1992). With the choir Cappella pro Cantibus from Oegstgeest he recorded a number of CDs, including his own compositions (released by the New Church Music Foundation).
Jaco van Leeuwen has been a cantor-organist at the Oude Jeroenskerk in Noordwijk since 1986.
